STUDYING ABROAD IN LONDON
Matt Zimmerman of
Treynor just finished his sophomore year at Central
College in Pella, IA. He chose to participate in the extensive
Central College Study Abroad program during two and a half months this
summer. Zimmerman stated that one
quarter of Central College students participate in this summer program,
and it is so well organized that students from other US colleges and universities enroll
in it. Zimmerman said that after
talking to some class instructors and other student participants he decided to
study abroad in London, England. He explained that he will be getting 6 hr. of
credits, half from course studies and half for an internship position at the
British Parliament. Zimmerman noted that
usually political science majors were selected for the Parliament internships,
but he is a business management, marketing, and communication major. In London,
Zimmerman said he would be staying in a residence owned by the college with
seventeen students, only three from Central
College. He is the only
one to be an intern at Parliament; others will be interns for businesses or
institutions. Zimmerman stated that he
would be working for the representative to Parliament from the Cotswold
district of Britain, and expects to be very involved with communications
ranging from phone calls to researching speeches. During the time there Zimmerman plans to tour
several British attractions and visit Germany,
Switzerland, and the Netherlands. We look forward to a report of his
experiences at the end of summer.
